I think about five years ago it felt good to sign new customers, that like what you're saying, the whole thing was like growth and customer acquisition, and that's what the world is on. And now it feels so good when someone tells us something worked.
It's like anything else, even though this world is moving so fast, the funnel is the funnel.
What you're talking about is the funnel, is the top funnel, middle funnel, bottom of funnel.
They determine whether 10 people or 10 million people see your content. And they're looking for one thing and one thing only. And that's retention.
You're losing leads, losing potential business that you didn't even know is coming through the door and your competitors are getting a free lunch.
I think the number one truth is you don't need more leads. You need to stop wasting the ones you have.
I'm paying top of funnel today. I know conversions going to take some time. And I think that's okay.
You want quality leads. You don't want to just want every lead.
But what we're seeing today with LLMs, it's a dramatic transformation in terms of now people might start top of funnel in an LLM and gradually work themselves all the way to the bottom of the funnel and be ready to purchase when they convert from an LLM over to a website.
It works out to about one video for per day, which gives you a very solid baseline for conversion, which leads me to my next point, which is that you don't need to be posting 75 times a day to be successful if your content is psychology based and impactful.
You get a little bit of what you'd expect in that the upper funnel messaging has more impact in the long term less impact on the short term lower funnel messaging has more impact on short term less impact on long term.
You are about to get the high octane growth blueprint you need to stop wasting time on fleeting trends and start building a real asset because email marketing is the one legacy channel that still crushes every conversion rate metric.
- Define growth as revenue growth without burning a bunch of capital, which can come from retention just as much as new sales. (With $50K Left and a 40% Failure Rate, H)
- Use SMS and Instagram DMs as lower-funnel conversion channels, not top-of-funnel awareness plays; rising digital CPCs mean brand building may now belong on radio, podcasts, satellite radio and CNBC. (OmniChat - unlocking the incredible powe)
- Once you hit roughly $1M-$5M and find product-market fit, switch from growth by addition to growth by subtraction: pick one customer type, one lead product, one channel and deprioritize the rest. (Why Is Your Best-Selling Product Losing )
- Before fixing your funnel, get the leadership team to answer the same 40 questions about the customer - misaligned definitions of the ideal client make messaging and conversion impossible. (Why Is Your Best-Selling Product Losing )
- Instead of vertically integrating into businesses she wasn't passionate about, Dani identified her core strength in lead generation and spun it out as Oodles of Leads, which scaled in under six months starting with roofing. (Build Wealth the Boring Way: Passive Inc)
- Treat audience growth and audience retention as separate disciplines with different data and different tactics; polishing your intro matters for loyal listeners but for a new listener the only job is keeping them from hitting stop. (Podcasting’s Next Era: Chat Shows, Video)
- Year one success is measured less by acquisition, which Casey calls natural funnel, and more by strengthening the middle of the funnel and elevating premium mass and VIP players. (The Future of Sports Betting Marketing: )
- Growth at all costs almost killed the business in 2022; the company reoriented to profitable growth using a private-equity-style playbook of acquiring and owning the games and properties it sends users to. (Earn While You Scroll: Inside Mode Mobil)
- Open Sponsorship has flipped its own growth focus toward retention, aiming to win a client's podcast and events budgets rather than starting from scratch with new accounts. (The Future of Influencer & Athlete Marke)
- Measure leads as your scaling metric, per Michael Masterson's Ready Fire Aim: if you're getting 5,000 leads, figure out how to get 7,000, then 8,000. (Cracking the Code: Lead Generation Secre)
